HISTORY

Resource Center of Moldovan Nongovernmental Organizations for Human Rights (CReDO) is a non-governmental organization constituted in December 1999 upon the initiative of the three leading human rights NGOs of Moldova: Independent Society for Education and Human Rights (SIEDO), Moldovan Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, League for Defense of Human Rights of Moldova (LADOM). The establishment of CReDO had been possible by a generous support from CordAid (the Netherlands) and technical assistance provided by the Netherlands Helsinki Committee.

CReDO as organization became operational in 2000 with the mission statement oriented towards development of managerial and action capacities of experienced organizations of Moldova. CReDO vision statement underlines the importance of professional and value oriented development of civil society actors of Moldova, which in their understanding constitutes one of the most essential elements towards a democratic, sustainable and responsible society.

Informational Center has been the first program which since year 2000 offered to civil sector activists and managers relevant informational sources necessary for a professional administration of nongovernmental organizations. At present Informational Center is a leader on Moldova market and occupies a specific niche in the region.

The second educatoanal program of CReDO, Organisational Development, started with a pilot program non-profit MBA for developed, active human rights and civic organizations of Moldova. Nowadays Organisational Development Program offers unique developing opportunities for civil sector experts in management and administrators from Moldova and the region with standard Master in Nonprofit Management and Social Leadership educational programs, individual assistance in organizational development, intensive courses. Starting from 2004, Civic Leadership program is piloted, the program that aims at development of the responsible leadership in Moldova.

Advocacy and Social Changes is the third CReDO educational program that was launched in 2003 with a comprehensive program pilot in advocacy, tailored for developed, active Moldovan organizations engaged in active promotion of social changes in favor of disadvantaged groups. At present the program offers a Master Program in Advocacy, Social and Policy Changes, intensive trainings in Advocacy for local and regional organizations, an original approach in social mobilization of the rural communities, provides services for policy research and advice, consultancy in administration of social changes promoted by social active organizations.

Since its foundation, CReDO has undertaken concrete actions at promoting the consolidation of nongovernmental sector of Moldova through cooperation and developing partnerships. Thus, in the course of 2001, at CReDO initiative was created a Consortium for the Prevention of Torture, composed of 5 human rights organizations. In 2002 CReDO developed a partnership regarding prevention of social exclusion in Moldova, and in 2003 it initiated a partnership for promotion of Roma rural community rights in Moldova.

CReDO is a well recognized organization through its civic and active position on the national level, which represented the human rights ngo sector at Moldovan NGO Council and NGO Forum during 2002-2003, through lobbying the interests of associative sector regarding developing in 2002 of more favorable conditions and standards for nonprofit organizations of Moldova.

CReDO persues the policy for the diversification of income. It considers that excessive dependence on the grants represents a substantial threat for the civic society. CReDO products and services are measured against the similar and comparable products from business sector for the reason to offer quality and value. It is believed that that the quality of the service could be importantly measured by the cost estimation of the client or beneficiary, it's social value and legitimacy as well as sustainability in a long term as of the withdrawl of grant funds. CReDO policy of diversification of income treats funds as investments to craete the supply for the demand and need existing in the society. The suply of the service must demonstrate viability in a long term through a direct of indirect contribution from the clients/beneficiaries beyond the grant money available.

Nowadays CReDO is a well-recognized leader in rendering professional and competitive educational and consultancy services in the field of organizational management and advocacy/social changes. At present CReDO is a consolidated team of young professionals that together with organization’s constituencies, including thousands of beneficiaries throughout Moldova and hundreds of organizations partners, contribute to creation of a new generation of social leaders supposed to be more professional and devoted to the civil cause and which deserves to have access to the most recent and professional technologies, knowledge and education.

CReDO 2007-2009 Strategy

Outlook and new position in the society. In the next circle, CReDO consolidates its educational and consultancy position, enriches it with quality leadership programs and evidence-proven consultancy instruments. These will serve the Moldovan society at large (civil society and public sector) to become more sustainable and able to meet the EU process obligations and challenges. CReDO will solidly establish herself in the area of democratic and social rights policy area to advance people oriented policies that aim at the quality of life, increased society sustainability and capacity produce a society anchored on European values of the democracy and human rights.

CReDO 2003-2006 Strategy

CReDO is a social needs oriented organization accountable to its constituencies (beneficiaries, supporters, community) through the formulation of the organization's mission as aproved by CReDO Board of Directors. Clear formulated mission defines the organization's competence and the intervention area based on CReDO's periodic and systematic evaluation and assesment of the evolving societal needs. As the development of the accounatble, responsible, professional and capable civil society sector is one of the critical ellements for the democratic and sustainable society, CReDO mission contributes to these objectives. CReDO intervention strategy has prime orientation towards the social development orientation aiming at enabling the civil society sector with means, skills, knowledge and built experience to serve the needs of the society.
